Building Bridges with Political Stakeholders: A Visit to the Deputy Mayor Amani Loubani
At Noaks Ark Mosaik, we know that lasting change in public health requires more than programmes and services. It requires political will, structural support, and a system that genuinely listens.
That is why we were delighted to visit Amani Loubani, Municipal Commissioner (Kommunalråd) and Deputy Mayor of Malmö, whose portfolio covers Democracy and Human Rights for the City of Malmö.
Our conversation was candid, rich, and grounded in shared values. We discussed the real barriers that communities face in accessing public health services, and how those barriers are rarely about individual choice, but about systems that were never designed with everyone in mind. We explored how community-based, bottom-up approaches like the integrated HIV and STI testing model we champion can be strengthened when political stakeholders actively engage, rather than simply observe the issues of Sexual and Reproductive Health, Rights and Justice (SRHR&J).
Amani’s commitment to a Malmö free from discrimination, where every resident can live with dignity and full participation, aligns closely with what we work towards every day. Her dedication to civic inclusion, anti-racism, and human rights frameworks provides a foundation that community health organisations like ours can build upon.
We came back with renewed energy and a shared commitment to exploring meaningful collaboration with Malmö Stad because the health of our communities is inseparable from the health of our democracy.
