Familjearken projekt 2016-2019

THE FAMILY ARK – A MEETING PLACE FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES LIVING WITH HIV

The Family Ark, as a project, took place between 2016 – 2019 at Noaks Ark Stockholm. The project was financed with funds from the Heritage Fund.

Today, The Family Ark is a place to meet at Noaks Ark Stockholm where all children and families who live with HIV are welcome. Our vision is that all children living with, and close to HIV should have equal rights in society. We work to strengthen children and families living with HIV through knowledge, community, and meaningful activities for the whole family. We believe it can be a valuable way for you and your family to evolve together.

Noaks Ark Stockholm - Familjearken - Utbildningar och emotionellt stöd

Education and emotional support

The Family Ark’s educations are about what it is like to live with HIV and, above all, about being parents. We offer knowledge about HIV and practical tools that can help you manage your own thoughts and feelings. We talk about how to deal with stigma, and the way you may be treated by those around you, answer questions and acquire new knowledge about HIV. Most often, our education takes place at our weekend camps for families living with HIV.

Cooperation

We continuously collaborate with the Children’s HIV Clinic at Karolinska University Hospital and professionals to be able to respond to children and families in a competent manner.

Relationship-promoting activities

At The Family Ark we use playful interaction activities as a tool to communicate with children and to promote feelings of feeling safe, trust, and community. It is a child-friendly way to meet the emotional support needed by children as well as the entire family.

Noaks Ark Stockholm - Familjearken - Meningsfulla familjeaktiviteter

Meaningful family activities

We offer trips to, for example, museums, zoos, and bathhouses to strengthen our community. According to parents who have participated in The Family Ark’s activities it has “stimulated activities outside the Ark with other children living with HIV.”
