We are all affected in our everyday lives and it is easy to feel fear and worry. Here we have some tips on what you can do to take care of yourself and others.
Usually the concern becomes less when we share it with others. Can you talk to a friend, a relative or us at Noaks Ark?
Many social activities and events are cancelled due to corona and many spend therefore much more time at home than usual. Try to see the possibilities that exist. Perhaps you can now devote yourself to a hobby or to read that book that you´ve had home since a long time ago. Or can you get in touch with the friend that you haven’t spoken to in a long time?
It can be difficult to sleep well at night if you are worried, but try the best you can. Sleeping 7-8 hours a night strengthens the immune system and improves memory. It is usually easier to look bright at life if you sleep well. In the evening it is good to unwind, to put away your phone for a while before going to bed and that you have it dark and moderately warm in the bedroom.
There are different ways to exercise, for example, you can take a walk or work out with the help of exercise apps. To exercise stimulates the formation of new nerve cells and also releases endorphins which relieve anxiety and make you feel better.
In these times, many fine initiatives have emerged to support others. For example, people offer to shop for those who are isolated and university students offer help with the math to students who have to study at home. Is there anyone in your area who may need some extra help? Anyone who is lonely even under normal circumstances risks becoming extra lonely during these times.
It is perfectly normal to feel worried about something we know so little about. Concerns can also bring something good. We become more vigilant and cautious, and we need to seek accurate and factual information to get through a difficult time as well as possible. So worry can be seen as a way to protect us.
The worry comes and goes and it changes in strength. When we get stronger concerns and fears, we cannot think clearly. We become irrational and magnify the difficult and reduce what is good after all. We easily get into black-and-white thinking where there is nothing in between. Our feelings are very convincing at the moment but keep in mind that nothing is true just because we feel and think in a certain way right here and now. A good question to ask yourself when you are afraid is: Has what I am worried about happend? Of course, the best thing is if you have the opportunity to share your concerns with someone. Everyone is concerned and it feels good talking to others about it. Also, do not forget that activity is the best remedy for anxiety and pondering.
It has a calming effect to try to live as usual as far as possible. This signals to us that a lot of things work just fine. So stick to the routines and when the old ones don’t work, you create new ones.
Even though we are not very worried, it is demanding and tiring to handle a situation that we have no control over and that we do not know how long it will last. We need to constantly make decisions and consider how we should behave. So besides taking care of sleep, diet and exercise, it is good if you can turn down the demands on yourself somewhat and have an understanding that sometimes you cannot be your best self.
