Welcome to Noaks Ark Syd

Noaks Ark Syd is a non-governmental organization (NGO) that works with HIV/STI prevention and support for people living with HIV. Since 1987, Noaks Ark Syd has been an HIV-service organization and works with several projects targeted to prioritized groups. For more information about our organizational structure and our projects, please contact us at: info.syd[at]noaksark.org or call the reception 040-611 52 15.

Noaks Ark Syd’s new acting manager

My name is Christopher Aqurette and I’m the new temporary manager at Noaks Ark Syd. I was employed as a projectleader in May so I’m fairly new at Noaks Ark Syd. But I have lots of years in working with HIV. My first job with HIV was as a condom distributor for RFSL in Stockholm. It was 1992. Three years later, I was employed by RFSL Stockholm as a HIV informant with a focus on young HBTQ people. At that time, I was young, myself.

Before joining Noaks Ark in Malmö, I worked for over ten years with RFSL Rådgivningen Skåne, first as an HIV informant and later as chairman of the board. That organization differs slightly from the Ark, because the chairman performs many of the tasks that a manager is usually responsible for. With me from RFSL, I have more than twenty years of experience in working with HIV and good education in labor law and human resources. I have also been a manager earlier, which I think is an advantage when Noah’s Ark South is going through difficult but necessary changes.

Best regards

Christopher Aqurette

Project Nadhir

Project Nadhir’s aim is to work with sexual health and rights to vulnerable MSM (men who have sex with men) who are in the migration process. The project recruited, trained and coordinated a reference group of people representative of the target group to design a strategy to reach the MSM target group. The members of the reference group then worked as ambassadors in terms of sexual health and rights.

If you want to know more about the Nadhir project please contact Baha Atieh on: baha.atieh[at]noaksark.org

Migrant project

The project aims to increase health among migrants through prevention and support, mainly people from high-end countries. The aim is to increase knowledge about HIV and reduce stigma, increase HIV testing so that HIV-positive get treatment earlier and provide better support for infected and related people.

Do you want to know more about the Migrant project? Please contact Povi Lawson on: povi.lawson[at]noaksark.org

Project Diaspora

Noaks Ark Syd’s Projekt Diaspora is a two-year project with the aim of informing third country nationals who migrate to Sweden on family reunification grounds about their health
and rights in Skåne and Blekinge. The project is financed through the European Asylum, Migration and Integration fund (AMIF).

People who move to Sweden on grounds of family reunification aren’t offered the same health checks and information available to other newly arrived groups. This can contribute to them not being as aware of their rights when it comes to healthcare and sexual and reproductive health. The project aims to reach this group with information, as well as identifying potential ill health, in order to offer help and support.

Another aim of the project is to develop a method for reaching the target group with customized information as early as possible after arrival to the country. Through education, the project will offer tools, both directly to the target group as well as professionals who come into contact with the group in their work. We will also collaborate with various immigrant organizations, to try to reach their members with relevant information.

The project’s activities and educational material will be developed in close collaboration with a reference group, consisting of people representative of the target group in regards to language, gender identity, ethnicity and sexuality. The reference group will actively choose themes that are relevant to the target group, as well as shed light on the cultural aspects that are important in the context. The project will conclude with a conference, in order to ensure that its purpose lives on.

If you have any questions about the project, please contact us on: info.diaspora[at]noaksark.org
